Lagos weather is classified as tropical savanna, sharing many characteristics found across other regions of southern Nigeria. To better understand the disposition of Lagos weather, one needs to keep in mind that the predominant feature of its disposition is the two rainy seasons and two dry seasons that shape its patterns.

The average daily temperature during January is 27°C and for July it is 25°C .On average the hottest month is March with a mean temperature of 29°C, July being the coolest month of the year.

The long raining season in Lagos weather begins in March and runs right through to the end of July, reaching its peak period in June over most regions of southern Nigeria. Lagos is covered in thick clouds and is extremely wet weather particularly in the Niger Delta and the coastal lowlands. Humidity levels are at an al time high of 85 per cent in most parts of the second most populous city in Africa.

The short dry season is experienced in August running for about 3-4 weeks, while the real dry period known as the "August break" is commonly observed in the last two weeks of August in Lagos and most parts of the Southern regions. The short dry season that falls in-between the two rainy seasons usually allows time for planting and harvesting of fast growing grains particularly maize.

The short rainy season is a brief wet period following the "August break" and begins in early September coming to an end in mid-October, reaching its peak towards the end of September. Rainfalls are not heavy like in the long rainy season, but rain coverage of the land is similar to southern Nigeria.

Lagos weather experiences a long dry season which begins from late October through to early March with dry conditions reaching their peak between early December and late February. This period observes the existing influences of the dry and dusty north-east winds coming in from the Sahara desert. Know as the 'harmattan' conditions providing relief from high humidity levels and thrusting forward dusty clouds out to the sea. Due to reduced moisture, plant life is usually in a weak position, grass dries and leaves fall from newly grown trees.
